As Israel grew further and further away from sound judgment and a desire for a king to lead them, it was necessary that God raise a leader to display His wisdom. It took a mother’s prayer of affliction, a miracle birth, and a young man willing to be led by the voice of God to bring Israel to repentance. Samuel’s lifelong ministry to the LORD called him into service as a priest, warrior, prophet, and faithful judge. His presence was key in reminding the Israelites that though they sought a king to rule them, God was to be held as sovereign. Samuel’s reputation and legacy are a picture of faithful judgment.
