There are lessons in the locusts AND the alarms. In our text, Israel was experiencing the devastating consequences of sin, and God wasn’t simply trying to punish them; He was sounding the alarm to wake them up and bring them back to Himself. In Joel 2:12–13 and 28, Joel’s message from God’s message doesn’t stop with repentance; He promises restoration and then makes an incredible promise: “I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh” (Joel 2:28). God doesn’t just want to make our circumstances better; He wants to transform our hearts, restore what sin has damaged, and fill us with His presence. The alarm is not God’s attempt to push us away; it is His mercy calling us to wake up, return to Him, and become people through whom His Spirit can work.
