Jehoshaphat was an amazingly dialed-in king when his reign began. He fortified all of Judea, giving it strongholds that were well-guarded and protected by a notoriously strong and organized military. Not only did he focus on safety, but he also pushed for his kingdom to know God, sending out teachers, Levites, and priests to instruct from the Law of God. He led his people in prayer and fasting, calling on God for protection, and God delivered. Unfortunately, like his father Asa, bad alliances, wealth, and weariness put a stain on an otherwise great story.
